Meet Sarah
Hi, my name is Sarah and I am from Germany.
When I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of eleven, I did competitive sports and tennis, and having diabetes had a huge impact on my everyday life—on my sports, my training, school and everything.
But, I was very fortunate to have my family with me, they were super supportive. My mom helped me everyday to prepare food for school, for practice—to have the right calculations for my insulin doses.
Of course there were many ups and downs, but my family was always there for me and this made a huge, positive impact on my life with diabetes.
Also today, diabetes has played a key role in my life.
So, having a partner next to you who is going through the same and who is living with the same condition has really changed my life completely.
We remind each other everyday to check blood sugar, to take the right doses and when one has a hypo, the other one is there with a glass of juice.
It's really small things that make a huge difference in our lives.
So diabetes was and still is and will always be a companion in my life.
My diabetes story: Sarah
