Meet Michaela
Hello, my name is Michaela and I have type 1 diabetes
At the age of 10, I was diagnosed with diabetes.
Very soon I went to the hospital and at the time, my brother was my biggest support.
He did all the training with me, about what is important, what to do in an emergency, what having a hypo feels like, etc.
The biggest support today is my family; my husband and my two sons.
My husband has apps on his smartphone to warn him in critical situations. He always has an eye on my health.
It helps him and it helps me. My life became much easier and he can worry less when I'm on the go.
The biggest motivation for me is my health. To be there for my children.
The low level of diabetes awareness is very challenging. People don’t know the difference between type 1 and type 2, or what living with diabetes really means.
It's a big challenge to meet people who tell me I'm sick and I cannot eat that and I cannot do that - because it’s not true.
If you’re educated and stay on track, you can do everything with diabetes, like everyone else.
It’s important to me to carry this message every day.
